W.E. Hill and Sons “Hill” violin bow, London, UK
SKU: S751
W.E. Hill and Sons made four grades of bows that we commonly see in New Zealand. While those stamped “Hill” are technically their lowest #4 grade, they are often as good as or better than higher grade bows from a player’s perspective. This bow, made by Edgar Bishop in the earl-mid twentieth century, is a good example, with a very steady legato at speed, good string crossing definition at the tip, and a very reliable, compact, accessible sautillé. The tone is warm but crisp. Altogether, a very likeable bow.
