Dario Vettori viola, Italy 1939, 16 1/4"

SKU: S695

Dario Vettori began his professional career as a violinist before turning his hand to violin making in 1935, four years before this characterful violin was made. Based in the small, isolated mountain town of Firenzuola, he made his own tools, which are still used by his son and grandchildren in their workshop in Florence. Later, Vettori studied under Ornati and won prizes for his work, but his early instruments, such as this viola, show a rugged individuality reflecting his great strength of character. The tone has depth, with a seductive, dark creaminess and clear overtones. Well-balanced throughout all registers, with a soloistic presence when needed, it speaks very easily and has great projection. The current Vettori family have provided a full certificate of authenticity.
