French unstamped swan’s head violin bow
Nineteenth century French bowmakers were all very aware of their illustrious predecessors, Francois Xavier Tourte in particular. Occasionally an interesting nod is made to an earlier more experimental time with the production of bows like this one, with tis elegant, more sloping “swan” shaped head. The rounded chamfers at the back of the head strongly suggest that this fine example was made by either Charles Nicolas Harmand or by the more notable archetier Charles Nicolas Bazin. The bow is response, drawing a clear warm, creamy sound with lovely overtones, a beautiful flautando, and a remarkably full sound for its relatively light 55.6 grams. This is an excellent bow for a committed violinist looking for a new and refreshing playing experience.
