Matthew Furber violin, London
SKU: S770
This beautiful and characterful, early nineteenth century violin was authenticated by the London violin maker Paul Voigt, who had made a particular study of the Furber family. The startlingly attractive and unusual one-piece back is of birds’ eye maple, with similar wood used for the ribs, neck and head. For many years, this violin was the preferred companion of one of New Zealand’s more prominent violinists, and it is easy to understand why. The tone is rich and colourful, with a brilliant, silvery E string and a strong, full resonance over all registers. It speaks freely and easily, and is a joy to play in all concert situations.
