Jan Krieg violin, Prague 1731

SKU: S706

Jan Kreig, using the more formal first name of Johannes on his labels, worked in Prague during the early-mid-eighteen century. His violins, based on a Stainer model, are closer in style to the work of the Viennese maker Johannes Georg Thir than to his Prague contemporaries. The tone is both brilliant and silvery-sweet, with plenty of tonal colour and a creamy quality when needed. The violin is highly sensitive and responds better to a coaxing, rather than a forceful approach. It will suit an experienced, expressive player looking for an instrument that is capable of professional concert performance.
