Violin bow stamped “JAMES HEWITT”

SKU: S755

James Hewitt was an early twentieth century violin maker whose workshop at the top of several flights of steep wooden stairs in an old building in Swanson St, was the support centre for many of Auckland’s violin makers.  He didn’t make bows, but imported good-quality unstamped ones from Germany which in the custom of the day he then put his name on.  This fine example has a strong stick with great balance and engagement with the string.  Articulation and bounce are clean and crisp making this an excellent choice for a demanding performer.
