Even before his time working for Jacques Francais in New York in the mid01960’s, Ian Sweetman had positioned himself as New Zealand’s pre-eminent violin maker, evidenced by this wonderful violin made in 1957. Based as a model by Guarneri del Gesu, the workmanship is accurate and assured. The tone is magnificent – rich, bright, open, resonant and ringing, with plenty of power and projection, very even and well-balanced and full of colour throughout all registers.
