Ernst Heinrich Roth violin #923, Markneukirchen 1952

Ernst Heinrich Roth’s Markneukirchen workshop, founded in 1902, produced and still produces many fine violins for the advanced student market.  This example, made in 1952 and numbered #923, has all the hallmarks of the Roth workshop’s better instruments, with very good selected wood tones and a lovely soft oil varnish that enhances both the wood and the sound.  The tone is very rich, with a lovely core.  Complexity and varied tone colours are complemented by vibrancy and excellent projection.  This is an exciting instrument for an advanced player.
