A French violin bow stamped “TOURTE”, probably by Charles Nicolas Bazin c. 1900
SKU: S690
This simple but finely-crafted French violin bow, stamped “Tourte” was evaluated by the international bow expert Bernard Millant as a probable product of Charles Nicolas Bazin’s workshop, and make around 1900. Bazin was the most prominent member of an illustrious family of French bow makers. The stick is very stable on the string, and has good sautillé, spiccato and articulatory skills. The balance is excellent, and the bow produces a warm, smooth, creamy sound. It handles extra tension very well, performing at its best with slightly tighter hair.
