William Zettwitz violin #23, Auckland 1916

SKU: S510

William Zettwitz began his violin-making career in Liverpool, UK, and emigrated to New Zealand for some years before re-establishing himself in London. His violins are loosely based on the broad, long-bodied instruments of the late sixteenth and early seventeenth century Brescian School. The wide upper and lower bouts give this violin a distinctively dark, viola-like timbre, enhanced by the choice of cedar for the belly instead of the traditional spruce.
