W. E. Hill and Sons “W.E. Hill and SONS” violin bow
The famous violin firm W.E. Hill and Sons, founded by William Ebsworth Hill in 1880, dominated the international violin world as violin and bow makers, restorers and expert appraisers for over a century. Their bows, categorised for quality with the use of different stamps, culminated in their first-grade bows stamped “W.E. HILL & SONS”, of which this is a well-treasured example. At 62.1 grams, it feels surprisingly light in the hand, but has the weight to draw a full, clear sound. Articulation is smooth and subtle as well as precise, and the spiccato is capable of a variety of colours and styles.
