German 'Adam' copy, silver-mounted violin bow
This intriguing, silver-mounted bow is stamped “Adam”, in imitation of the work of Jean “Grand” Adam, one of France’s finest bow makers, but is almost certainly made in Germany. The round, pernambuco stick is very strong, giving plenty of resistance in loud or vigorous passage work, but has good clarity and response and a very accessible spiccato. At 62.5 grams it draws a full, warm sound without feeling at all clumsy in the hand. A full-length pearl slide and back plate add elegance to the otherwise-plain ebony frog.
