Ian Clarke, Queensland, 2002
Ian, one of Australia's foremost violin makers, has made 97 violins, 106 violins and 20 cellos. He won a silver medal at the Cremona Triennale. This violin is based on the 1741 'Jarnowich' Guarneri del Gesu.

Although labelled as if it were made in "Paris", this violin was manufactured in the highly productive Thibouville-Lamy violin workshops in Mirecourt. The label is unusual in featuring the name of the company's founder, Jerome, rather that that of a co-worker, deceases 18th century French luthier, or fictitious person, as was the company's standard custom.

This fine, pernambuco, silver-mounted bow made in the workshop os the famous English firm, W.E. Hill and Sons, London, is by Albert Leeson and carries his stamp, "3", on the tip face. The bow has its original silver-coated thread lapping.

Hill bows are made in four separate grades. Those stamped "W.E. Hill & Sons", as this bow is, were the highest grade and were made with the best materials. The actual bow maker was Arthur Brown, who has left a cross on the tip face below the head mortice. Other identifying signs are "R" on the frog lining and "R62" on the stick beside the eye mortices. The bow has an octagonal, pernambuco stick and silver mounts.
